The Suitcase Kid by Jacqueline Wilson
The main character is Andy. Her parents have split up. She has step-sisters and brothers and a rabbit called Radish. It is a tear-jerker which reflects real life and which would appeal to any age group, but especially 8-13 year olds.
The children from The Book Club, Chesterfield.

Matilda by Roald Dahl
It was a fantastic book. I wanted to find out what Matilda did to her family. I think it was very funny and cruel that Miss Trunchball was very evil to Emily when she threw her round with her pigtails. I think most of Roald Dahl's books are amazingly good.
Becky, 9.

I thought the start was fantastic so I carried on reading the book. I think Matilda was the best character. She has an eyecatching mystery power. I didn't like Miss Trunchball because she is strong and scary. I think it should have the excellent marks: 10/10.
Emma, 8.

The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud
This is one of my favourite books of all time. I give this roller-coaster of a book 10/10. When a young magician's apprentice summons a Djinni (demon) that he thinks he can handle, he is in for a big surprise . . ."
Jacob, 9.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The book was catchy and makes you want to carry on reading and not stop. My favourite character was Draco Malfoye because he is spoilt and he has a lot of courage. I do not like Professor Umbridge because she is evil and cruel.
Jake, 10 (but nearly 11).

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
The book was great and we like the way the story is long and goes on and on. We would recommend the book to everybody. We like the way the author describes the tree beard and the orcs and the book is worth everything.
Joe, 9, and Adam, 10.

The BFG by Roald Dahl
Sophie gets kidnapped by the BFG, but Sophie thinks that the BFG is going to eat her, or will he? Grade: Extraordinary!!
Joe & Ryan, 9.

The Molly Moon Series
'Molly Moon's incredible book of hypnotism' - Molly finds a book on hypnotism and sets out on an adventure. Funny and enjoyable and a definite must.
'Molly Moon stops the world' - Molly goes to Hollywood and stars on TV but then she stops the world. Unputdownable - read it now!
Ellie, 11.

The Witch Trade by Michael Molloy
It's full of funny and entertaining characters. My favourite character is Spike who has blond hair and deep blue eyes. The thing I like about this book is that you can never guess what will happen next without being wrong. I would recommend The Witch Trade to anyone from the age of 10 upwards who loves a good adventure. This book is a definite 10 out of 10.
Camilla, 11
